I guess if you asked me, I have a few knee-jerk reactions on what my favorite place in the world is.
Where Broadway, Fifth Avenue, and 23rd meet. UVA’s Lawn and the garden behind Pavilion II. Any beach with a cold summer shandy in my hand.
But after my jaunts to this vineyard the past two weekends—and mentioning it to y’all every chance I get—it’s definitely in the running for my favorite place: The Winery at Bull Run. And no—this is not a sponsored post in anyway, I just can’t get enough of this wonderful spot where the green grass and grape vines grow abundantly. And whether you live in the DC area or are just popping in for a weekend, I cannot recommend it enough.
Although my apartment complex has ample outdoor seating, a rooftop patio over looking DC, and a full-fledged putting green, you just can’t beat a day spent around a picnic table with a glass of sangria in hand and live music in the background. I swear it’s not just the buzz—I always feel better after spending an afternoon at The Winery at Bull Run’s back patio.
Besides the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, I love this place for a variety of reasons. For one, the wine is stellar—the petit manseng is my favorite, but there are ample award-winning options for you red drinkers, too. Added bonus: they make both white and red sangria in the summer, served on their back patio by the glass or pitcher.
(Pro tip—when given the option of a glass or pitcher of sangria, you should always choose the pitcher.)
Sometimes when I go wine tasting out in Loudoun County—where many of Virginia’s vineyards are—I feel like half my day is spent in the car—an hour and fifteen minutes there, the same amount back. The Winery at Bull Run is one of two vineyards in Fairfax County, my hometown—the other being Paradise Springs—and is only about five minutes off I-66. Compared to other vineyards, the thirty minutes it takes for me to get out there seems like a breeze!
In addition, The Winery at Bull run is so big compared to some other vineyards so you don’t feel like you’re sitting right on top of your neighbor. And they have a whole section for parents with children so you can chat with your girl friends without a five year old screaming in the background. #winning
When I went out there this past weekend, I wore this Banana Republic Factory Flutter-Sleeve Dress and I cannot recommend it enough! I scooped it up at the National Harbor Outlet Mall, but you can snag it online for under $50. I’ve worn it to work and to a winery now, but would definitely wear it to a wedding as well.
Because of the sun, you can’t really see my shoes in these photos, but I am wearing the Sole Society Odette Sandals. They’re all over Instagram right now for good reason—they’re on trend, high quality, and at a great price point. I’d definitely recommend them!
