It’s been a while since we’ve done a what’s on my nightstand—have you ready good books lately?
I generally read for 10-30 minutes before bed, always have a book with me on the metro, and love reading while traveling. As such, I’ve made my way through quite a few books this summer and the three I’m talking about today are some of the best books I’ve read lately. Life’s too short to read bad books, right?
Leave Your Mark by by Aliza Licht: I actually discovered this book through my friend Kristyn, and love it. If you really enjoyed Girl Boss, you’ll love this one. Aliza talks all about how owning your personal brand can get you far on the corporate ladder. The read was particularly interesting to me since I am studying PR and Aliza was the longtime SVP of Global Communications at DKNY. Her tangible examples and real-world-focused advice is invaluable.
Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan: If you’ve been seeing this book all over social media this summer, it’s for good reason. The storyline is so fascinating it will keep you turning the pages. New Yorker Rachel heads back to Singapore for the summer with her boyfriend, Nick, only to find out he is crazy rich. An interesting take at new money versus old money, my only complaint about this book is the ending did not resolve everything I was wondering about. (Don’t worry though, the main storyline was resolved.)
Modern Romance by Aziz Ansari: I saved the best for last as this was by far my favorite read of the summer. What I loved about this book was that it is not a self-help book, but a sociological look at the state of modern romance, not only in the US, but across the world. Amidst all the data, Aziz’s humor shines through—he even includes a picture of Pitbull at the end. I wish I could lend it out to each and every one of you!
Alright, so I’d love to know—what should I read next?
