What I (Actually) Wear to Work

We’re halfway through the work week!

Truth be told, I find this time of year one of the hardest times to get dressed for work. I’m tired of all my summer clothes, but it’s too late in the season to justify spending money on new ones. And while I stocked up on fall work clothes during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, I can’t justify wearing a long-sleeve wool dress in 90-degree-100%-humidity weather. Drenched in sweat is not the professional image I’m aiming for, you know?

Speaking of work, it’s that time of the summer when vacations seem to be winding down, the interns are heading back to school, and the realities of a busy fall are sinking in. September through Thanksgiving is my busiest time at work since I head up a lot of our recruiting program, and due to some other factors, I think this fall is going to be extremely crazy. While I don’t have a work uniform per say, I love stocking my work wardrobe with lots of black—it makes for easy mixing and matching in the morning, and it provides a pulled-together look that doesn’t require much thought. Which is exactly why I’ve been wearing this Vince Camuto Ruffle Neck Blouse on repeat as of late.

I picked up this top during the aforementioned Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Though it’s technically a fall piece, it works really well for summer, too, since it’s sleeveless and lightweight.

I’ve long been obsessed with Vince Camuto shoes, but had never tried any of their clothes—and this top certainly did not disappoint! I love the quality, and it washes and wears extremely well, which is always a plus with work clothes.

I will say that it is very drapey, so consider sizing down from your normal top size, otherwise, you run the risk of it looking too much like a potato sack. I usually wear a medium in tops, and ended up with the small in this one. I will also note that I also tried the blush color of this top, but it was extremely see-through, so I returned it. If you do like the blush version, you’d have to be prepared to wear a cami under it if you wanted to make this work appropriate.

Paired with my favorite Ann Taylor work pants—similar Ann Taylor Pants here and here—this is an easy weekday outfit that transitions from desk to drinks perfectly.

I’d love to know what you’re wearing to work during these dog days of summer! x

  2. This is such a pulled-together look for work! I find myself in TONS of dresses this time of the year (due to the heat) but in september I may start breaking out some peep-toed booties to trick myself into thinking I’m “transitioning”! ha

Those shoes are freaking adorable! I’m starting my first 9-5 job in just over a week and at a loss for what to buy! I’ve been a student for so long that all I know what to wear now is jeans and a sweater. Going through my wardrobe and pinterest to find some creative ideas! Will have to add leopard print shoes to the mix!
