Is anyone else confused about what season we’re in?
Last week in DC, I dined al fresco.
Let me repeat—I dined al fresco.
In February.
In the Mid-Atlantic.
Maybe I don’t have to move to the sun belt after all.
Yet, of course, if it seems to be good to be true, it probably is.
Case-in-point, on Sunday, I headed to a fun blogger brunch at Quinn’s on the Corner. The day prior, I had woken up to 70-degree temps, yet a mere 24 hours later, it was back in the 50s. As such, the name of the game these days is transitional winter-to-spring outfits. Because as much as I’d like to be wearing white jeans, strappy sandals, and an off-the-shoulder top without a coat from now until September, I think Mother Nature has something else in mind.
So after skimming through my newly paired down closet, I put together the perfect brunch outfit for this time of year. Added bonus? I didn’t have to buy a single new item—and I bet you could easily recreate this look without buying anything, too.
First up, these Ann Taylor Modern Skinny Ankle Jeans. If you’re looking for a new pair of jeans, I can’t recommend these enough. They do stretch a little—so I would size down, but they are so comfortable, are a great wash, and if you size down, really do keep their shape through the day. Since it was a bit warmer outside this past weekend, I opted for my tried-and-true J Crew Factory D’Orsay Flats, which are great for work or weekend brunches. I find they run true-to-size, and mine are on their second year now.
One of my all-time favorite closet pieces is this cape blazer—similar here—because it seriously pulls any outfit together. Here with jeans, it really creates the perfectly put together brunch look, and during the week, I often wear it with dresses or instead of a regular blazer. Because it is a bit heavier, I was able to get away without wearing a coat on top this weekend, which is always a win in my book!

This is such a great look! I love the basics and the pops of color!
Thank you so much lady!
I LOVE that blazer! This is the perfect brunch outfit. And I’ve definitely been thinking about selling a bunch of clothes and really only keeping stuff I love and wear.
