Hello from colorful (and hot) Charleston! I’m currently posted up at The Dewberry Hotel’s Living Room Lobby Bar with a ‘Basically’ cocktail in hand—life is good!
This past Saturday, before I left for the Low Country, I met up with Jenn to shoot a few looks in DC. We met up at the Line Hotel, which was the cutest mid-century modern space. I want to go back ASAP to have a drink at their bar—the space actually reminds me a lot of The Dewberry! From there, we walked through Kalorama en route to our final destination in Dupont Circle—more on that in a bit. Though I’ve spent quite a bit of time in Adams Morgan near the Line Hotel, I hadn’t ever really walked through Kalorama. I can see why the Obamas decided to make their post-White-House life there! It was the cutest neighborhood with some stunning houses. Jenn and I found the cutest tree-lined street to shoot this maxi dress on, and I wish the pictures did the location justice!
After, we rewarded ourselves with bottomless brunch at Tulips. They have an awesome brunch deal where for $32 you get bottomless Bloody Marys, mimosas, or bellinis, bottomless oysters and beignets, and an entree. Needless to say, we parked ourselves there for a while and got caught up on life. I’d definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a good brunch deal!
Now let’s chat about this black maxi dress—it’s been my favorite summer piece for weekends!
If you’ve been reading here for a while, you know that I am a huge fan of the Mint Julep Boutique. They have great, on-trend pieces for under $50, and their shipping is super fast! When I saw this cold shoulder black maxi, I knew it had to be mine. (I bought it right before Key West—you can also see it in this post!) The fabric doesn’t wrinkle and it didn’t shrink in the wash, so that’s a win-win in my book. It also has pockets, which is always an appealing feature!
The one thing I will say about the Mint Julep Boutique is that you should try to order the right size / style the first time. Before I ordered this maxi, I ordered a shorter dress I thought would be really cute, but it ended up being too big. Since I spent under $100, I paid for shipping to me, and then paid for the shipping to send it back. It was entirely user error, but now I am overly cautious about making sure I really want something from their store and that I guess my size correctly. Their customer service is super helpful so if I am between sizes, I email them and they’re able to steer me in the right direction. When I buy maxis from them, I usually opt for a medium.

What a cute dress! I’m always nervous to wear sleeveless things in the summer – I burn so easily!
I definitely burn easily too – lots of sunscreen! x
