DC has a lot of traditions.

I sometimes joke that’s probably because of the high concentration of UVA grads like myself living in or near its borders. And at UVA, if you do anything twice, it’s immortalized as tradition.

But anyway, back to DC and its traditions. Kickball on the mall. Late night at Ben’s Chili Bowl. Zoo Lights around Christmas. But one of my favorite traditions is one I don’t even take part in: on a Thursday during the summer, some Senators on the Hill wear seersucker suits to work.

Trust me, there is no better way to stand out in the sea of gray and blue on the metro than with a linen seersucker suit.

So even though I don’t work on the Hill—I thought I’d jump in on this fun summer tradition. And thankfully, I found a way to do it without having to buy a seersucker suit.
