The Perfect Valentine’s Day Cocktail

Happy Wednesday—it’s all downhill from here!

What are y’all ladies doing for Valentine’s Day? My BFF M and I have celebrated the holiday together every year since we graduated college.

The first year, I was trying to get her on the Friends bandwagon, so she came over, we made a Trader Joe’s frozen pizza, and drank a lot of wine.

The following year, we found ourselves at the Washingtonian singles party. We didn’t find love with any of Washington’s most eligible bachelors, but our Uber driver did give us candy hearts, so there’s that.

Last year, we enjoyed wine and a Trader Joe’s pizza and went to see How to Be Single. It was such a memorable film, we both had to Google it recently to remember what it was.

So this year, we’re combining forces with my good friend Kate, who is throwing a Galentine’s Day chocolate and cheese affair, which I am so. excited. for. Even though it would be easy enough to look at the love holiday as just another inconsequential Tuesday, it’s nice to have fun plans to look forward to!

But, of course, no Galentine’s or Valentine’s Day festivities are complete without a pink drink—and these strawberry gin fizz cocktails are easy to make and perfect to share with any lady—or gent!—in your life.

Ingredients / Serves 2

  • 6 fresh strawberries
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 lime wedges
  • 3 ounces of gin
  • 8 ounces club soda
  • mint to garnish
  • ice

Directions

  1. Muddle 6 fresh strawberries with 1 teaspoon of sugar and the juice of 1 lime wedge. Divide the juice equally among two tall glasses. I love using these champagne flutes for Valentine’s Day cocktails. (If you think of it ahead of time, I generally just slice my strawberries the night before, toss them in sugar, and place in the fridge. By the morning, enough juice for the flavor and coloring has been brought out.)
  2. Fill glasses with ice and add 1.5 ounces—a standard shot— of gin to each glass.
  3. Top off with club soda. Add mint to garnish and enjoy!
