My Family’s New Stocking Tradition + Some Stocking Stuffer Ideas

Hello + happy (almost) Thanksgiving! I was lucky enough to be able to work from home today, and even snuck off to a Soul Cycle class on my lunch break. Tonight, my best friend Molly is coming over for salads, wine, and some cheesy Christmas movies, and then I am heading home to the suburbs for a few days. Urban Family Thanksgiving is a fun one, and I am so looking forward to it!

I have so much to be grateful for this year, and my heart swells when I think about it. But I want to say thank you for reading A Touch of Teal and making it some part of your day. Even after all these years, this blog still brings me so much joy, and I am thankful it allows me to share my life, travels, and things i love with all of you.

As y’all know, I posted my 2019 gift guide last week, and many of the items I recommended have since gone on sale, so I’d highly recommend shopping for everyone on your list this week if you can. (You can also shop all my gift guides from previous years for more inspiration if you needed it!) Today I wanted to pop in with some fun stocking stuffer ideas so you can shop those this week if you wanted, too.

PS—the picture above is from a few years ago! I can’t believe how blonde my hair used to be!

favorite holiday traditions

Until last year, Santa filled all our stockings, and did a wonderful job doing so. But, since Santa is super busy around the holiday season, as a family, we decided it would be fun to draw names and fill each other’s stockings Secret Santa style. We put a $50 limit in place and everyone lists a few things in a Google Doc as idea starters—favorite candies, favorite drugstore makeup, other small sundries. We had such a good time playing Secret Santa that we’re going to do it again this year—we’re drawing names this week when we’re all home for Thanksgiving break! This is not a unique tradition to us, but it is such a fun one given where our family is in life right now, and I hope it’s one we keep going for years to come.

So, without further ado, I wanted to share a few of my favorite stocking stuffers—I can’t believe Christmas is less than a month away! Like my 2019 gift guide, I’ll update this throughout the season as I think of new ideas.

I love this Alidia Ring from Baublebar so much that I have two, and it’s on sale today for $12! The one pictured is the Twist Mini, but there’s also the Mini (I have the fuchsia!) and the regular sized Alidia Ring.

This is hands-down the best mascara I’ve ever used, and I think it’s even better than the designer mascaras on the market. Regularly $24, you can snag it today for $15. I think it’s worth every penny!

Sonia Kashuk makeup brushes are my favorites! They average about $10 a brush, but are the best quality—and look much more expensive than they are thanks to the sleek gold handle.

Earlier this summer, I realized I no longer had a pair of pearl earrings, so I grabbed these from J Crew Factory. I love them! They go with everything, and the diamond makes them a little unique. They’re currently on sale for under $10.

Trader Joe’s makes some of the best soy candles at such a good price point. I saw this holiday scent trio last night at the grocery store and threw a few in my cart for hostess gifts, stocking stuffers, and, of course, for me! This trio is just $7.99.

My family always makes fun of me because despite how often I travel, only a few of my suitcases have luggage tags. (What can I say, I like to live my life on the edge, hah!) This trio from Amazon is so cute and at a great price point at $12 for three.

I have this portable charger and I do not leave home without it! It holds up to four iPhone charges, and makes me feel so much safer when I’m traveling since I know my phone will never die on me.

Growing up in the DC area, one thing my mom always got us for Christmas were the official White House ornaments. At under $25, they are such a great keepsake ornament—and would make a really cute gift hung around a bottle of wine.

These Amazon sunglasses are one of my best buys this year—and at $11, they are a steal! I think they’re great quality for the price, and the classic shape would look good on anyone.

I use my shower speaker everyday, and it is one of those things I didn’t know I needed, but now, I can’t live without. Whether it’s listening to a podcast or music, it’s a little luxury I love.

This monogram marble bottle stopper is gorgeous, and is the perfect size for any stocking! It would be especially cute for any bride-to-be, you could get them the letter of their new last name.

Nothing beats a pair of J Crew camp socks—they are the best this time of year! I wear mine my with my Bean Boots and Hunter rain boots,  or just around the house on a cold day. They are currently on sale for under $10 a pair and come in multiple colors.

Sonix makes my all-time favorite phone cases, and these would be perfect to slip in any stocking. They come in really cute designs and are relatively sleek—but still provide enough protection that when you drop your phone, you know it won’t crack.

This lip sleeping mask is on my gift guide, too, but it’s so good it deserved a shoutout here, too. This product is worth every penny—it leaves my lips so hydrated! And, it’s a sizable amount. I’ve had mine since June and have barely made a dent in the product.

My coworker sells Beautycounter, and I recently went to a shopping party she had at her house. I bought a few products to try, and this Charcoal Mask has quickly become one of my favorite skincare products. It leaves your skin feeling so smooth and really helps clear up acne.

Speaking of skincare, I also love these eye masks! Because they’re gold, they feel a little bit extra—and they really brighten up the under eye area.
