Rain, White & Blue

April showers, y’all. They really know how to force you to turn lemons into lemonade.

And that’s exactly what fellow DC blogger Monica of Cake and Lilies and I did when rain thwarted our desk-to-drinks outfit shoot. Instead of rescheduling, we decided to show you our go-to rainy day outfits instead.

(Of course, after the shoot, we added a little alcohol to the lemonade—it was happy hour, after all.)

The verdict? Besides the fact we lacked the cute umbrellas à la Gossip Girl, mixing comfortable staples like skirts, sweaters, and button downs with rain boots is the perfect way to combat those inevitable spring showers and end up at your local watering hole dry. Not to mention, the rain is much more fun when you have a friend to splash around in those puddles with.

Of course, along with the literal rain shower season comes the other shower season—engagement, wedding, anniversary, baby—you name it, you probably have a shower invite for it on your fridge. Whatever you need to commemorate, Anjolee’s diamond anniversary band is a perfect way to celebrate and show some love to the special people in your life. (Or a good thing to pass along to your Dad, who most likely is struggling with Mother’s Day gift ideas right now..hint hint ;]).

Because my love life is very much  what I like to call, “groom and date tbd,” I opted to spruce up my rainy day outfit with Anjolee’s timeless Seven Stone Diamond Bangle. Paired with my go-to silver watch, it’s a simple way to keep my accessory game up when the weather might have me down.

For the rest of my outfit, I went with bright, springtime classics—a blue gingham button down, a white lace skirt, and my favorite red rain boots. It’s a perfectly chic commuter look that easily transitions from the Metro to the office with a good pair of neutral heeled sandals.

Great minds think alike, so naturally, Monica showed up in a similar outfit. I can’t get enough of her classic all black look with a pop of color. I mean, guys, I need her black flair skirt in my closet asap. To get full details on her look, be sure to hop over to her post.

For those of you that don’t know, Monica and I met earlier this year at Blogger Scene, and have become fast friends. She is such a wealth of knowledge when it comes to blogging, and so. easy. to. talk. to. Plus, she’s an amazing graphic designer and always has the perfect restaurant recommendation on hand.

In the spirit of today’s post I wanted to leave you with a little bit of cheese before we conclude as I am a sucker—”life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning how to dance in the rain.”

I hope you have a good friend (or two!) by your side who’s willing to dance with you in the rain. (Hopefully you’ve both got your rain boots on.)

  7. I love meeting wonderful people through blogging. It’s just such a pleasure. And let me say, you guys look absolutely amazing, even in the rain. You don’t need any cute umbrellas, it would take away from the gorg looks ;). I hope to see you at my new blog next week.

Hello! I think your outfit is adorable! But i think best of all, those Hunter boots look amazing on you! As a collector (of now 8 pairs of them to be exact!) I think a pink or yellow pair would look really cute on you as well. Oh and you are very beautiful too!
