Monica and I really have a knack for shooting outfits in slightly inclement weather.

We’ve done rain. We’ve done the most bitter afternoon of winter, which of course was followed by three uncharacteristically warm December days. We’ve shot trench coats in 90-degree September heat. And on this particular day, we chose the windiest day to post up by the Potomac.

No, seriously—of the nearly 200 frames we took, I think my hair is out of control in 95% of them.

But regardless of whether or not the weather cooperates, this Madewell Striped One-Shoulder Dress is one of my favorite purchases this summer.

Although it’s really similar to my favorite off-shoulder dress, I decided to splurge and treat myself to this number because I loved the combination of the off-shoulder trend with the one-shoulder look.

To be honest, this is also one of my first-ever Madewell purchases. Besides a pair of d’orsay flats I bought back in 2014 and have since walked through, I wasn’t drawn into their website until recently. I loved the quality of this dress so much—it doesn’t shrink in the wash and has pockets!—I recently bought another dress for The Blog Societies Conference in Charleston a few weeks from now.

I found that this dress runs pretty true-to-size—I generally wear an 8 in dresses, and bought a Medium. My one gripe with Madewell is they don’t accept the J Crew credit card—what does a gal have to do for her rewards points!

I’ve only owned this dress for a few weeks and already got a ton of mileage out of it. And, I plan to wear it on Friday in Chicago! My cousin is getting married on Saturday, and she’s throwing a pig roast for all out-of-town guests the night before her big day.

Cute and slightly trendy mixed with a classic print is my go-to for any event where the pictures will be around for years.
