The Perfect Fall Wedding Guest Dress

Two weekends ago, my cousin got married at The Woodlands at Algonkian out in Loudoun County, a suburb of Washington, DC. I’m a sucker for all weddings, but I especially love family weddings. I have a large extended family—my dad is one of seven, my mom one of five, and I have 23 first cousins. So, as you can imagine, we roll really deep at family weddings—there’s never a shortage of people to dance with, pregame, and after party with. This past wedding weekend was no exception!

The Woodlands at Algonkian is actually an event venue at a regional park, and on the park’s grounds are cabins that are for rent. My parents and several of my aunts and uncles rented cabins for the weekend, so we enjoyed “cousin camp” all weekend long. All the cabins were super clean and well-kept, and their large decks overlooked the Potomac River. It was the most picturesque place! (We snapped the pictures in this post on our cabin’s deck.)

It’s been a few years since I’ve attended a fall wedding, so I really wanted to use the opportunity to add another wedding guest dress to my closet. I also knew that whatever I found for my cousin’s wedding, I wanted to be able to re-wear to my best friend Lauren’s rehearsal dinner in November. I also didn’t want to spend more than $100-125 on whatever dress I bought since it wouldn’t be something I wore everyday—wedding guest dresses can be so expensive, and I would rather invest in something I can get more use out of! In the past, I’ve been a big fan of Rent the Runway for weddings, but didn’t want to use it this time since there was a great opportunity to re-wear what I bought for my cousin’s wedding.

I was browsing around online and stumbled on the Lulu’s Gala Ready Midi Dress in Forest Green and I knew I found the one!

I’ve ordered a few times form Lulu’s in the past—mostly wedding guest dresses—and have always had positive experiences. It’s fairly easy to hit their free shipping minimum and returns are free and processed quickly. It’s a great place if you want to buy something on the trendier side and don’t want to spend more than $100—the Gala Ready Midi Dress is just $82 and comes in eight colors. I love green dresses, so I thought I would mix it up from my normal tendency to pick black clothes.

This was seriously the most fun wedding guest dress, and I got so many compliments on it. It has beautiful movement, which you can see here!, making it perfect for any dance floor. Even if you don’t have a wedding to head to this fall, I also think this would make the perfect holiday party dress!
