Last week, Ashlee was back in town visiting from Houston, so the blog squad—Monica, Jenn, Kristyn, Laura, and me—rallied so we could see our dear friend. Our group has a shared passion for burgers, so when we were considering where to dine, Lucky Buns bubbled to the top. They only take reservations for parties of six or more, and since our group was that size, we decided to call ahead and reserve a table.
Lucky Buns is a short 10-15 minute walk away from my apartment, pretty much right on the border of the southern side of Adams Morgan and the northern side of Dupont Circle, right where 18th Street NW, Florida Avenue, and U Street intersect. We picked the perfect day to go, as it was one of the first nice al fresco days of the season and we were lucky enough to be seated on their outdoor patio.
We grabbed wine on happy hour, which lasts until 7pm, and had a wide variety of burgers at our table. I went with the OG Bun, which was served with gouda, pickles, shaved lettuce, red onion, garlic mayo, and mustard. It was essentially an elevated twist on your classic American burger, but they also have all sorts of burgers inspired by other cuisines—Southeast Asian, Australian, and British to name a few.
You can order all their burgers with single or double patties, but I found the single to be more than enough as it was a sizable burger. Since their burgers don’t come with French fries on the side, we ordered a few baskets for the table, which was definitely the right strategy.
This was the perfect spot for a casual burger night—I’d definitely go back so wanted to share with you all whether you need a restaurant rec now or in the future!
PS—I know these Dinner Club series posts aren’t always the most relevant unless you’re looking to try a new DC restaurant this specific week, but my goal is to build up a bank of these types of posts over time, so that whether you’re a local looking for a new place to dine or coming in from out of town, you have a variety of spots to pick from. Plus, it’s a personal passion of mine to try new restaurants, so just trying to authentically share my life here in DC with you all!
Such a fun night! Loved getting to see y’all! And the burgers were delish!
