Life Lately

Happy Monday, ladies! Sit back, grab a coffee or Diet Coke, and let’s talk life lately.

ON SOCIAL MEDIA / I was considering blowing this into a full-length post, but figured I wouldn’t subject you to another rant so soon. However, I do think it’s really important to talk about how social media can be both a great thing that adds value to our lives, and a really shitty thing that causes unnecessary stress and anxiety.

For instance, over Valentine’s Day weekend, I was actually having a really great weekend. My bff M and I saw How to Be Single and had a great wine night. Yet, I was so caught up in one random Snapchat an acquaintance sent me and the Snapstory of the guy I used to see—I have an uncanny ability to leverage Snapchat as a dating app, but that’s another story for another day—that I couldn’t even live in the moment and enjoy my own life. So my resolution? I decided to delete Snapchat for a week. And it was so freeing. So freeing that when I redownloaded the app, I unfollowed a ton of people, so now it’s much more manageable for me.

How do you all deal with social media?

life lately

TV SHOWS / I crushed Fuller House the weekend it came out, and am excited to see it was picked up for a second season. While I haven’t been keeping up with Scandal as much, I’ve been loving American Crime Story: The People vs. OJ Simpson. Even though I know the verdict, I find myself on the edge of my seat week after week. The one thing I will say is that I find myself continually wondering why Ross Geller is on OJ’s legal defense team. There’s just something about David Schwimmer that I can’t unsee him as Ross.

I am also hooked on Suits as always, and am bummed the season finale was last week. If you’re looking for a new show to watch, I’d highly recommend it because there is something for everyone. It’s also free to stream with an Amazon Prime account!

PARK CITY / Less than two weeks before we head out to Park City for five days! I’m excited to be crossing a new state off my list, and seeing the Rockies for the first time. We’re definitely planning to ski, so I just picked up a new ski jacket. Luckily, a few people I know recently went out there, but I’d love any recommendations from y’all for places to eat or things to do while we’re out there! Can’t wait to share our trip with you when we get back.

GRAD SCHOOL / We’re about halfway through the semester, and things are going well. It was a bit rough the past three weeks because of midterm assignments and group projects, but now it will be a bit more smooth sailing until finals in May. At first I liked my digital crisis comms class more, but lately I’ve been really enjoying my digital analytics class because data can create such powerful insights.

I am still on-track to graduate in December, and looking forward to only taking one class in the summer. I am really glad to have had the opportunity to enroll in the program—Georgetown’s PR and Corporate Communications, for those newer folks—but am definitely looking forward to it being over as well. It is really hard to work full time, go to school, and still maintain a quality blog without letting any friendships slip.

COUNTRY MUSIC / After seeing Sam Hunt and Lady Antebellum in Nashville last September, I realized how much fun country music concerts are, and how I want to make an effort to go to more. Recently, my phone died when I was driving and so I was forced to listen to the radio, which I rarely do. Lo and behold, there was an advertisement for the Luke Bryan concert in June and I knew my sisters would be equally excited about snagging tickets. A few days later, we saw a Facebook event for Zac Brown Band pop up and since my parents love them too, we’re heading to their concert in early September. Summer 2016 is shaping up to be a great one!

SPRING / It seems like we’ve been getting tastes of spring weather recently, and I am so ready for it to hurry up and get here! I’m planning on doing a full round up of my spring clothing picks later this week, but I recently scooped up these white distressed jeans, this timeless striped dress, a pair of inexpensive sunglasses for brunch or the beach, and am hoping this romper works out, but you never know when you order something online! It’s supposed to be in the 70s this week, and I am so looking forward to wearing some open-toed shoes!

So, enough about me. What’s new with your life lately?

Always a love/hate relationship with social media! I’m happy to hear Fuller House is picked up for another season. So much nostalgia with it! Hooray for being on the homestretch with your classes! My first one of the semester just ended and I’m about to start the second. I can’t believe how quickly they’re going!

  3. I’m so with you re: social media. I recently downloaded the Crowdfire app and it does nothing for my confidence to see who specifically unfollowed me on Instagram and Twitter. You start scratching your head thinking. ” What did I do wrong?” My husband thinks the whole thing is pretty silly and he’s right but of course, it’s hard to remember that at times!

I haven’t tuned into the OJ series but everyone is hooked! I just started watching Season 4 of House of Cards (so good) and I’m so excited that Season 2 of Bosch is coming back next week!

Cant wait to see your pics from Park City! I’m sure you’re going to have the best time 🙂

I am so glad I am not alone when it comes to social media. It is really hard to remember that it doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things.

Ah I need to get into House of Cards especially since it is based in DC! Thanks so much for well wishes in Park City! xx

  4. I go back and forth on social media, like we all do I think. Sometimes I find it amazing and an awesome way to connect and engage with a wide group of people. Sometimes I see it purely as a communication tool. Sometimes I see it only as a pain in the butt time suck. At the end of the day, it’s a little bit of all of these things all rolled together.

You’re so right about social media! It’s a blessing and a curse. It definitely gives you rose-colored glasses when looking into someone elses life. The funny thing is, it never looks the same way on the other side of the computer screen.

I’ve been streaming Suits, too! I recently started watching it. I hate that it’s not compatible with my Chromecast, though! I’m not as far into the show as I’d like to be because of that obstacle. I guess I’m living a good life if that’s my biggest concern!

Aw thanks lady – completely agree. It’s jut hard to remember sometime that people’s lives aren’t how they play out on screen! LOVE ME some Suits! Hope the Chromecast issue figures itself out soon.
