Life Lately

Well, it’s been a hot minute since I talked to you ladies about my (offline) life lately, and what better time is there than the present?

MY DAY JOB / The President of my company is big on breaking everyday habits. For instance, driving to work a new way once a week or going to a new workout class instead of falling into your tried-and-true routine. He finds that he has some of his best ideas when he takes a new approach on life, so I took a page out of his book and completely reoriented the way I sit at my desk. I have a corner desk, and my monitor and chair used to face in the corner. This week, I change it so I face forward and it makes my desk seem so much larger than it was before! Added bonus—there’s room for a mini gallery wall. I framed this print and this print and am loving how much color they bring to my desk.

GRAD SCHOOL / I’ve had over a month off from Georgetown, and start back up this Wednesday. It was so nice having a long break. I’m actually kind of nervous about jumping back into things since I’ve had so much more me time than I do when I’m in school. Only four classes left—I finish in December—and I could not be more ready!

life lately

HART OF DIXIE / Y’all, I have been crushing some Hart of Dixie on Netflix. I watched seasons one and two in college, and recently picked up where I left off because I noticed they added season four! I actually finished the series on Friday night, and while I think the ending was perfect, I am bummed it’s over. If you know of any good One Tree Hill/The OC/Gilmore Girlsesq shows I should watch next, please let me know! Low brow CW teen dramas are probably my favorite genre.

THE WORKWEEK HUSTLE / Last time we talked, I was suffering a little Fitbit fatigue. Fear not, y’all, as I am now a bonafide stepper. My office bought everyone a health tracker of their choice so we could have inter-office competitions. Most of my close friends at work also opted for a Fitbit, which means we can compete weekly—and much to my dismay, on the weekends—to see who can accumulate the most steps. The competition is fierce, and I love how motivating it is. I’ve been going to the gym a lot more than I had been in recent months, and it’s definitely improved my mental and physical health.

life-lately

CAKE DECORATING / Later this month, Charlotte and I are taking a Wilton Cake Decorating class at our local Michael’s store. I’m so glad to finally be enrolled in one, considering it’s been on my list of fun to-dos for a few years now. Here’s to hoping it comes in handy on all those Valentine’s day treats!

NEW YEAR, NEW SMILE / Growing up, I had braces for seven years. In hindsight, I think we’ve all realized my orthodontist was kind of a kook, and after talking with my dentist and meeting with an orthodontist, I’ve opted to start Invisalign treatments to fix my back bite and make room for a few veneers to perfect my smile. A few of my teeth are smaller than they should be and it’s always bothered me, so I’m excited to start treatment. I definitely have a girl crush on my orthodontist as well—we bonded over how gross we thought it was the dentist cleaned Ben’s teeth on The Bachelor. I mean, talk about unsanitary!

life lately

So now, enough about me. What’s new with your life lately?

The cake decorating class sounds awesome! I’ve always been interested in going to one! You should def blog about it 🙂 Totally with you on struggling to get back into the swing of school. My first one was last week and it’s tough readjusting. Hopefully it’ll be a smooth transition back!

Ah I definitely will! Should be a fun class. I hope you’re getting back into the swing of things now that it has simmered down a bit. Good luck this semester!

Great update Katie! I love that you included what you’re watching on Netflix. Hart of Dixie is always on my top suggested watches but I haven’t given it a go yet (I’m making my way through The Good Wife currently). I’m glad all is well!

Those prints are lovely! So bright and colorful – just what you want in the middle of the winter blues (which I’ve been experiencing since the minute after Christmas).
Also, how awesome is your company?! I really wish that more organizations would take that sort of interest in making an investment in the health and wellbeing of their employees. I’ve been using my iPhone to track my daily steps, but sometimes I forget to take it with me when I’m walking the dogs or leaving work to get some tea. Perhaps I’ll have to check out a fitbit… Thanks for sharing!

Thanks so much Julia! I have been experiencing the winter blues since right after Christmas too, especially since it was a 70-degree Christmas. Yes! And Fitbits have been coming down in price, so hopefully you can score a good deal. xx

    Fitbits are the best!
    I love mine too 🙂
Except I recently lost my cord so I have to get a new one before I can use it again.
