What I (Actually) Wear to Work

Kicking the workweek off with a workwear post seemed appropriate, y’all.

These photos were fun for me to shoot since I shot them while I was in Charleston for my girls a couple of weeks ago. (Full post on that trip coming later this week!) I’ve never hired a photographer to shoot looks for me on vacation before—I’ve just skipped them all together or had a friend/family member power through on my behalf. But, I since I knew of Kim from the TBS Conferences in Charleston I went to, I decided it would be worth reaching out and seeing if she was free while I was in town. Lucky for me, she was!

Me and three of my best gals left for Charleston real early on a Friday morning. So early that we did a roll call at 5 am confirming everyone was awake so no one would accidentally make it on our flight.

When we arrived to our amazing hotel, The Dewberry, it was around 9:30 am. Our room wasn’t ready yet, so my friends and I ditched our leggings and t-shirts—the finest plane wear around—for our Charleston exploring outfits in the super swanky lobby bathroom. (I am not being sarcastic at all, this was truly one of the nicest ladies rooms I’ve ever been in!)

I knew I was meeting up with Kim at 10:30, so I got dressed for this quick, two-outfit shoot. It was really fun to get ready with my friends as I usually am laying out clothes for blog photos solo and we were just so excited to be in town. Considering I was working with four hours of sleep, I think these photos turned out great—I am really glad I have some photos of myself—not just of the pretty architecture—in one of my favorite cities.

I went shopping the night before our trip to Charleston and when I walked into LOFT and saw this Costa Jacquard Skirt, I knew it had to be mine. I mean, hello, it’s orange and blue—aka UVA colors.

As I mentioned in my last workwear post, I’ve been trying to invest more in my work wardrobe. I did another huge closet clean out and listed a ton of the work clothes I wasn’t wearing anymore on Poshmark. As part of that closet purge, I ditched a lot of my J Crew Mini Skirts I used to be a fan of for work. Not that they were ever inappropriately short, but I’ve been trying to use my wardrobe to communicate my level of seriousness about my job a bit more—so the longer, the better these days.

This skirt is by no means a pencil skirt, but it is a bit longer (1/2-1″) than the skirts I recently donated or sold. And, since it’s got the shift shape, it’s not too tight, making it a great conservative option for the office.

Paired with this Zara scalloped lace top I picked up about a month ago—the top is sold out online, but I’ve seen it in stores recently—it’s a great option for these hot summer days. A note that my office is casual enough I can get away without tucking in my shirt to show off that scallop hem, however, you could obviously tuck that bad boy in. I’ve also been wearing the navy blouse seen in this post with this skirt a lot, too.

The skirt runs true-to-your-Loft-size (#vanitysizing) and I opted for the regular length as opposed to the petite length, like I typically do in their pants.

I’d love to know what you’re wearing to work this summer! x

  3. I never would have thought to pair that shirt with that skirt! I think I would have wanted to tuck it in, but I really like it like this! Thanks for the inspiration!
