Anyone else feel like the holiday season is really in full swing now that we’ve had a weekend in December?
My company holiday party is tomorrow night, and while that event tends to be more formal—see my picks for cocktail dresses for the holiday parties in this post—most of the events dotting my calendar are more snappy casual. Think holiday open houses, blogger cookie decorating events, festive dinner with friends.
Two such events have already happened these past few days, and really helped me get in the holiday spirit! Monica and Libby hosted a cookie decorating event on Sunday at Karson Butler Events. Y’all, the space was gorgeous and they decorated so well!. It’s amazing what a morning of doing something we all loved in childhood can do for your mood. Then on Monday, Kristyn hosted her annual “A Blogger’s Favorite Things” party at The Hamilton. We did a white elephant gift exchange, except instead of bringing gag gifts, we all brought our favorite things. So. much. fun. The food was great, and the company even better.
(Speaking of—would y’all be interested if I rounded up my favorite things into a gift guide?)
Of course, which each fun event comes the age-old question: what the heck do I wear?!
So when I found this Fluted Cold Shoulder Blouse at Ann Taylor right before Black Friday, I knew it would be such a fun top for this time of year. Cold shoulder and bell sleeves? Sign me up. Not to mention, it’s one of those tops that festive and fun, but doesn’t scream Christmas, so you can wear it long after December 25 has passed.
For those of you on the shorter side like me, I would recommend buying the petite. I rarely wear petite shirts, but I found the regular one was longer than other blouses at Ann Taylor.
Paired with my favorite ripped jeans, high heeled sandals—obviously only the play if you’re running from an Uber to the door, not if you’re on the metro—and red statement necklace, it’s been a go-to look of mine this December.
Of course, it’s easy to get caught up in the bustle of the season as you’re jumping from party to party, so make sure you’re doing things for yourself as well! Nothing beats a night in with your favorite Christmas movie from time to time, you know?
(My favorites are Home Alone, I’ll Be Home for Christmas, and The Family Stone.)
I speak from experience when I say this top also looks good with leggings—and no one is stopping you from a night in with your well-decorated tree! x

Completely agree! Trying to be better about picking pieces like that!
loving the “snappy casual” term – thats a good way to describe it! I think this is super cute and you could even rock it with booties if there was walking involved.
