Happy hump day! Last month, when Kristyn and I went to Eaton for drinks, we decided to make our “date nights” a monthly thing. It’s hard to see friends on a regular basis with such busy lives, so I love scheduling dates with my gals in advance so we can keep up despite the chaos. When Kristyn and I were thinking about where to go for our May date, I mentioned that Coconut Club was on my list and she said she’d been dying to go as well, so we started stalking Resy for a table. Laura mentioned Coconut Club was on her list, so we made a little date night out of it last Thursday.
If you couldn’t tell from Instagram, I am absolutely obsessed with Coconut Club. Usually I feel like when restaurants are this Instagrammable, the food is subpar—but I was so impressed with the food and drinks when we visited! The restaurant, located in Union Market, is done by four-time Chopped champion Chef Adam Greenberg, and when we were dining, he was personally plating everything. After I took approximately 838957329 photos, we started off with a round of cocktails. We all opted for the Mahalo at You Later, which is especially their version of a frozen daiquiri. It made me feel like I was far, far away from DC on an island somewhere.
The food at Coconut Club is described as vacation-style tapas and there’s definitely a strong Hawaiian influence—the ceviche and mako shark are flown in fresh from Hawaii everyday! We started with the tuna poke, the mussels, the steak tartare, and the veggie avocado toast. For our main course, we went with the kalua pork lazy susan—and it was actually served on a lazy susan! It was essentially a make-your-own Hawaiian rolls bar and had all the toppings you could want, plus, the pork was really tender and well seasoned.
If you’re looking for the cutest spot for girls’ night or a birthday, I can’t recommend Coconut Club enough—I’ll definitely be back soon!
Such a photogenic spot!
It was the cutest!
