A Classic White Shift Dress I’m Loving

A few weekends ago my sisters and I were at The Greenbrier, which is one my all-time favorite places. Known as ‘America’s Resort,’ it’s nestled in the small town of White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, right over the state line from Virginia. The Greenbrier has a dress code — though I would say it is loosely enforced — but I love any excuse to get dressed up!  After we checked in, and enjoyed our complimentary glasses of champagne, we freshen up in our super cute room and then decided to take a walk around the resort before dinner. Jennifer and I had visited The Greenbrier five years ago, but it was Lindsey’s first time and we were excited to show her around.

One of the first stops on this unofficial tour was this gorgeous parlor at the foot of two staircases that has the most stunning yellow rose curtains. It was the perfect spot to snap some pictures of this gorgeous Classic Six Twiggy Shift Dress I picked up late last year. It’s an investment, for sure, but I have been blown away by the quality. The fabric is super thick, but comfortable, and when it arrived, it was packaged beautifully in a garment bag with a felt hanger. I will absolutely be buying from Classic Six again! I am 5’4″ and bought the regular length — since it is a ‘twiggy’ style, it is purposefully cut short, but they do have the option to order it one inch longer. I also found it runs true to size, though if you are between sizes, I would size down given the fabric has a lot of stretch.

This might sound narcissistic, but I really like these photos of myself — I felt really confident in this dress, and I think it shines through in the photos. I snapped some photos in this very same room the last time I was here — I was 27 then, and I was 32 on this trip — and I couldn’t help but think about how far I’ve come in that time. I switched jobs, moved to DC, moved back to Arlington, survived a global pandemic, upgraded my wardrobe, traveled so many cool places, and, overall, just feel like I know myself so much better and have a better idea of what I want in life. It’s true what they say — a lot can happen in five years!

I had some Vici store credit that was burning a hole in my wallet, so before our trip, I picked up this Vici Dolls Tweed Sequin Clutch — I am super impressed with the quality and was missing a fun, colorful clutch from my collection, so I have no doubt I will get a lot of great use out of it. And I finished off the look with these J Crew Factory Knotted Heel Sandals — they are currently sold out in gold, but you can grab them in other colors here, here, here.
