Last night I went to dinner with my old roomie Lauren, and we ordered the best alcoholic milkshakes as a pre-birthday celebration.
We were talking about the friends Thanksgiving dinner she and her roommate, Molly, are throwing in a few weeks and what kinds of drinks they could serve. Obviously, our minds went to the super-seasonal apple sider sangrias and the like.
But I have to say, like I love the holidays, I love my island drinks. And you know what, if I can listen to Christmas music in July, I should be able to drink tropical drinks in November. (Am I right, or am I right?)
One of the coolest classes I’ve ever took in college was bartending. Not only did it increase my knowledge of ordering drinks at a bar, it gave me confidence to try out some of my favorites at home—like this tropical stunner I’m sharing today.
This Island Girl cocktail always a hit at parties, and if you make it this month instead of a seasonal something-or-other, we can keep it our little secret.
Recipe File: Island Girl Cocktail, Serves 4
1 Cup Cranberry Juice
1 Cup Vodka
1/2 Cup Ginger Ale
1/4 Fresh Lime Juice (…or if you’re like me, store-bought lime juice)
1. Combine ingredients in a large pitcher and stir.
2. Pour over ice.
I’d love to know—are there any off-season cocktails you’re into right now? Are there any drinks you’d like to see on upcoming recipe files? I am a certified bartender after all ;]
