HI THERE—IT’S NICE TO MEET YOU!
WELCOME TO A TOUCH OF TEAL,
A TOP WASHINGTON, DC LIFESTYLE BLOG.
My name is Katie Urban, and A Touch of Teal is truly my passion project where I share the things I love, reflect on past and present experiences, and document my life. I hope you’ll grab a cup of coffee—or a glass of wine!—and stay a while.
So whether you’re looking for the perfect desk-to-drink or weekend outfits, travel guide for your next adventure, home decor ideas—and cocktail recipes for when you have people over, a new book to read, or just reflections on life as a millennial living in DC, know you can find fresh, colorful content here.
HERE’S A LITTLE MORE ABOUT ME:
Why is your blog called A Touch of Teal?
When I was selecting a name for my blog, I knew I wanted something that I wouldn’t grow out of or get sick of easily. My middle name is Teal after my Grandma’s maiden name, and since it’s so unique and meaningful, I thought it would be fun to use it for my blog name.
Do you have any advice for bloggers?
Yes! Check out my blogging tips + tricks section for all the latest advice, but some good posts to start with: my top five blogging tools, the seven best WordPress plugins for bloggers, SEO tips for bloggers, an easy Lightroom tutorial for bloggers, my top four tips for pitching brands, how to make a photo collage, and how to make a GIF.
Where do you live? Where are you from?
I live in Arlington, Virginia about a mile outside of Washington, DC. I was born in Durham, North Carolina, but consider Fairfax, Virginia home.
Do you have any favorite posts?
Obviously! Some of the posts I’m most proud of are: DIY Mardi Gras Bead Champagne Art, On the Difference a Year Makes, What I Wish I Knew When I Started My First Job, On Finding Happiness, Is It Okay to Cry at Work? and any of my Travel Guides.
Do you work full time?
Yes! I am gainfully employed, and work on A Touch of Teal on nights and weekends.
Where did you go to school?
I double majored in Media Studies and American Studies at the University of Virginia and then earned my Masters in Public Relations and Corporate Communications at Georgetown University.
What are your favorite Virginia vineyards?
As of late, I am loving The Winery at Bull Run because of the fun atmosphere—they always have great live music on weekends. An added bonus, it’s not as far from DC as some of the other vineyards in the area. I also love Greenhill, Bluemont, Sunset Hills, and Stone Tower.
What is your favorite food?
I’m not one to say no to Mexican food—especially if guacamole is involved.
